Events & Meetings

Hi all,

We are planning the annual legendary TED tour to Sado this year on the weekend of October 17/18.
Located in the sea of Japan, 2h30 from Niigata, Sado is a very rural island with great food, famous sake, and excellent diving. All and everything we need !

Program (tentative)
- late evening departure on Friday, Oct 16th, to Niigata, arrival as the sun rises, more or less.
- Ferry (and sound sleep) from Niigata to Sado in the morning of the 17th
- Two dives on Saturday
- Evening in a Ryokan on the Island, including dinner and breakfast the following day
- Two dives on Sunday
- Back to Tokyo with a late arrival on the 18th

The exact price will depend on the total number of participants (basically, the more the cheaper), but as an indication last year it costed roughly 40 000 yens per person (and that is what we are targeting for this year), including:
- 4 dives, not including rentals if needed, and transportation on the island for the divers
- 1 night and a dinner/breakfast in the Ryokan
- Shared transportation to Niigata (gasoline and motorway toll)
- Boat from Niigata to Sado... and back.

There might be some very slight changes, hopefully for the better and cheaper, as we will try and optimize both transportation and accomodation.

Families and non-divers can join, there is plenty to see, eat, drink, trek and do on Sado. For those interested, Snorkeling is also a possibility. Non-divers will not pay for dives (a 20000 yens rebate), but the above quoted price does not include extra activities, and it does not include a car rental for non-divers (without a car, it might be very difficult to enjoy the island), so please contact us if your family plans to join.

In order to secure the accomodation and the dives, we would appreciate if you could tell whether you (and your family) are interested to join, whether you have a car or a driver's license, whether you need anything or have anything particular request BEFORE SEPTEMBER 19th.
This is important to optimize the costs.
Final confirmation and final price will be given at the end of September.

Thank you very much to Christian Polak who told with passion the Nil's wreck story, and keep us under the charm of the Nil until late in the evening.

Thank to Jerome for his great organization and his simultaneous vigourous translation.

Nil.jpg DINER WITH HISTORICAL CONFERENCE

LED BY CHRISTIAN POLAK (French version follows)

On Friday October 12th 2007 – from 7pm to 10pm

At the Petit TONNEAU (Toranomon station)

The European Divers’ group is very pleased to invite you for a very special event: thanks to Michel ESTABLE, on Friday October 12th 2007, we will welcome as a guest speaker, Mr. Christian POLAK, who will provide us with a fascinating conference on the dramatic story of the French Boat, the Nil. After this short conference, we will have the pleasure to ask all our questions to Mr. POLAK, while enjoying a special menu from the Chef of the French restaurant, le PETIT TONNEAU (Toranomon station).

“On March 20th 1874, the NIL sank  in the Japanese sea, in the south of IZU Peninsula with only 6 survivors. This French boat contained some very precious treasures from France that have never been found. In 1950, the wreck has been localized by 35 meter depth and in 2006, a group of Japanese researchers did try to find the containers of the Nil”.

In the nearest future, it could be possible for us to dive on this wreck, depending on some specific authorizations! Attending this conference will be considered as a pre-requisite for divers willing to discover the wreck with us.

Mr. POLAK, graduated from INALCO in 1971 and from the Graduate School of Laws of Hitotsubashi University in 1973, led his own consulting company in Japan, to support foreign companies in their business palns in Japan and he is an administrator of the French-Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Tokyo. He did publish several books related to the French-Japanese relationship at the beginning of the century.

Agenda:

7pm                                      Welcome Drinks
7:30pm-8pm                       Conference by Mr. POLAK (in French, with reading notes in English)
8pm-10pm                           Diner with Mr. POLAK (he fluently speaks Japanese, French and English)
Children are welcomed (privatized outside area of the restaurant)

Prices:
5, 000 yens (all included, drinks, 3-course meal, coffee & tea) per adult
3,000 yens (all included, drinks, 3-course meal) per child (up to 12)

Reservations

DINER avec CONFERENCE HISTORIQUE

par CHRISTIAN POLAK

le Vendredi 12 Octobre 2007 – de 7pm à 10pm

au the Petit TONNEAU (station Toranomon)
